As part of her role as Practice Lead at the Centre for Deliberative Democracy, Dr Emanuela Savini is a co-author of the Guidebook on Deliberative Engagement: Key Features and Practical Insights.

The Guidebook is a comprehensive resource for designing, implementing, and evaluating deliberative engagement. It was developed to support government agencies across Australia in selecting the most appropriate methods for deliberative engagement and putting them effectively into practice.

Informed by decades of research and hands-on experience in deliberative democracy, the Guidebook was grounded in a series of conversations led by the Centre for Deliberative Democracy with stakeholders from across NSW Government agencies in 2024.

It features:

  • Case studies of real-world deliberative processes

  • Checklists and practical guidance for planning and delivery

  • A library of 10 deliberative engagement methods

  • Links to further resources for practitioners and policymakers
